Like most of us, I live my life as best I can, always wondering when "they" will figure out that I am almost always making it up as I go. But you've gotta have faith, right?

It's insulting
If I had a quarter for every time I've been told to be open with my students about my culture and to let them be open about theirs, I would be a very rich woman. It gets increasingly harder to listen to such remarks without making any faces.

i'm confused, what does that mean?
you should talk about how deeply connected you feel to your chinese roots and why your favorite holiday is the autumn moon festival.
Or you have to modify the curriculum to meet the needs of all your students. I could be retired by now if I got a quarter for everytime I heard that line. Cole
I just had a three hour lecture on honoring ebonics and not telling students that they're wrong. Um, yea-- that's fine in the neighborhood, but what about at a job interview?

For very different reasons, I love you both. Thanks.

It's all about code-switching out here.
